Food For Childrens Parties

By: Low Jeremy

So your child's birthday party is coming up and you still haven't thought of what kinds of food to serve? Don't fret. While you may be a gourmet cook and, thus, pressured to come up with something spectacular for his or her big day, you don't really need to push yourself too hard. You will find that the key to a successful children's birthday party menu is to keep things simple and uncomplicated.

A lot parents slaved over the party menu in the past and spent lots of waking hours poring over recipe books to come up with the perfect cupcakes and what-not, only to find out at the end of the party that only half of what they prepared had been consumed. It hurts, isn't it? Well, it shouldn't really be as painful once you realize that kids come to a party to be entertained, primarily. Eating is only secondary.

Kids are easy to please, so you don't really need to go all out on this department. In fact, the one thing that you can actually focus on with the food is how they look. Children judge food initially based on their appearance, so you might want to make them enticing.

Enticing, for kids, means cartoony and colorful, so you can go play with food coloring if you want. Blue spaghetti? Why not? It may look icky for adults, but it could the one big factor that would get your young guests to devour it.

You must also remember that kids are fussy eaters. Hence, you might want to hold off on the saucy meals and go for the simple finger foods that won't find their way into the children's clothing. Cut your food servings into bite size pieces so they won't have to struggle through it. Also, while you might be tempted to serve a lot of high-sugar foods and candies, you need to control them. You can compensate for the lack in sweets by using fun food coloring on breads, cupcakes and others.

Of course, no fuss party food doesn't mean you shouldn't plan ahead. While most of these no fuss meals are easily available in supermarkets and bake shops, you have to be careful that none of the foods your serve contain potential allergens, like nuts. You won't be able to find out about each of your guests medical history (and it's a little rude to do so), so you just have to be on the safe side at the onset.

Planning a children's birthday party requires a significant amount of effort on your part, not just with the entertainment and decorations, but also with the food. However, if it's your child's happiness that you have in mind, this shouldn't be a chore, at all.
