Being a kid means going out and exploring the world. They have unlimited tanks of energy that cannot be contained in a single box, hidden. They must have something to do or else. The inevitable happens, it's already season for showers of rains and kids can be heard singing...
"Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day,
Little children want to play..."
It's the popular children's song that describes kid's distaste for rainy days. It is a challenge for parents to find activities that their kids can do while waiting for the rain to pass.
Nowadays, kids have many options on what to do even without having to go outdoors. Kids could enjoy the rainy season as much as they'd look forward for the summer days because they can do activities which are also fun. What rainy day activities could they play?
Rising in popularity is the game of pretending where kids act out a character of people or animals. This is the kind of rainy day activities that is played by the fireplace while getting warm from the cold of the rain, when the family gets together . Children put on costumes that suit their character, use tools and instruments as props and mimic voices and sound the character produce. children are able to understand behaviors in certain situations and how people feel when they are in particular circumstances. If you're a deer, what would you do if you are being chased by hunters and is after your offsprings? Children will be able to rationalize the situation and think about solutions to the problems presented. It facilitates speed in thought and decision-making and helps them to be creative. Parents and family members are also encouraged to role play and participate so that kids get more involved and become more enthusiastic.
One thing that is admirable and evident among all children is their wild and creative imagination . They love colors and drawings. Baking and decorating cupcakes and cookies is a way for them to express their creative ideas. This rainy day activity would keep them busy inside the kitchen, mixing icing colors and making figures and design with it atop the cookies and cakes that they too, can help bake. Aside from having fun eating the cakes they made, it also teaches them to be meticulous on small things and to take care of little details.
Another rainy day activity is a venue to help them learn the value of being organized and orderly with things not only on their own things but all stuffs at home. Kids can be taught to sort through toy cupboards and cabinets Let them arrange things by color, by shape, by use, or other characteristics, and pile it accordingly or put it in a single box. This enhances their ability to recognize things and their uses. They're also taught to help their parents in the chores at home, making them more obedient and responsible.
Oftentimes, one's imagination is what it takes to create fun rainy day activities for the kids. There are many other activities that can be done. Without you realizing it, children may already prefer indoor activities or rainy days.
