Learning Tool That Talks Back To Kids

By: Johnny

Do you remember being a kid and having to lug around heavy books? Throwing books into a backpack to take to Grandma's or on a trip because mom insisted that you read on the ride there? Books can be cumbersome, heavy and awkward to carry. Audio books have all the adventure but none of the negative weight of a hard copy book. Audio books also have other neat benefits that children will love. That's what makes them such a cool learning tool for kids; kids will use them!

One benefit is that audio books make it easier for kids to remember details about a book because of having heard the text and not just having had read it.

Another benefit is that audio books are entertaining. Kids will stick with it longer if they find learning fun.

Children who have reading difficulties can listen and follow along in the hard copy book so that they can hear how a word is pronounced that they may have been struggling with.

Audio books also save storage space and are perfect for smaller rooms, or apartment living, or for bringing along on trips. Because they are easier to store, kids can use more of them, therefore learning more.

Kids will spend more time listening to audio books because they can listen as they do other things. They can be playing or just messing around in their room while they are listening to the audio book. They will spend more time with the book.

Kids love to listen to stories. They may be having so much fun, that they may not even realize they are learning.

When it comes to learning a new language or hearing the pronunciation of difficult words; hearing them instead of reading the word in print helps them to understand the correct sound of the word the first time. When children read a printed word by themselves, they can pronounce incorrectly a word and not even know it. When they listen to the word being pronounced correctly they cannot make a mistake.

Most audio books not only have someone talking that kids can listen and relate to, there are usually sound affects that bring the book to life. The book is more interesting as an audio book and will hold the child's attention longer.

Audio books not only teach children how to pronounce words but they help children to learn how to use words in proper sentence structure. They also learn how to use expression and inflection in dialog, and how words flow naturally in speech patterns.

Some children find certain books more interesting in audio book format because of the narrative voice, background sounds, and other affects that can bring characters to life more so than with the written word alone.

Just the vocals of the audio book and the personal flavor that these books give to kids can hold their interest and invites them to spend time with the book. Some kids find reading a hard copy book boring and a required task. Most children find audio books more like play and something they look forward to. Part of the excitement that an audio book holds for kids is that having one is like having a companion that talks to them. A learning tool that talks back to them.
