By: Phil Boren

Some people think that temper tantrums launch at terrible 2s, but actually they can start before then and keep going all through school age if you do not handle them right.

Temper tantrums from your child can drive just about any parent crazy. But knowing that temper tantrums are normal and handling temper tantrums the proper way are the top two ways to getting the tantrums under control.

Here is some parenting help to get you on the exact road to handling temper tantrums suitably:

Remain calm with a child's tantrum. If you are infuriated, this only disclose to your child that you are out of control.

Commend and reward your child when they do positive things as regularly as you can. Only giving them attention for bad behavior will make them throw more tantrums down the road, since that is the main way of receiving attention from you.

If the tantrum going to be a safety matter such as running out in the street, immediately put them in time out or hold them and calmly tell them the dangers of their actions.

Let them know when playtime is going to be ending in a little while by telling them something like "We are leaving the park in 10 minutes. That way there is at no time a surprise when you tell your child playtime is done.

I know as a parent this is a difficult one, but never give in to your child's demands when they throw a tantrum, this is the quickest way to get them to believe that tantrums are the best way to get what they want.

Hold on to a notepad close by and write down what you observe triggers assorted tantrums. You can then study over your notes when you get a chance to figure out a strategy to help your child bring to an end this behavior.

When going out somewhere, talk to your child calmly beforehand and make very plain in detail how you expect them to act and the consequences if they don't, such as time out or grounding from Television etc,.

Try counting to 10 and think of the best approach of handling temper tantrums your child is having to keep from blurting out the first thing that comes to your mind. Looking through your notes from your notepad will be a great help here.

Explain to your child that anger is a feeling that all kids, children, human beings have, but must learn to manage.

Always bear in mind that there are several things that cause temper tantrums in your child. They may be fatigued, a stressful environment such as a shopping mall, or they could just be hungry.

Teach your child the best way to get what they want without throwing a tantrum. As an example, "Ask me to please give you the stuffed bear off the shelf, and I will get it for you"

Keep in mind also that temper tantrums are just as stressful for your child as the are for you. Something you might choose to do is print this list out so you will have a close reference to helping you have a calmer life with your children.
