There Are Many Scholarships That Can Help You Get A Degree!

By: Timothy Brown

Something to bear in mind when you decide to return to school, is that any form of financial aid that you seek will likely require some form of written essay to be considered. Sometimes (but not always) it will be about why you deserve the money for college. Other times, they want you to write on why you have decided to go to college, what your goals are and other things related to your education. Still other times, though, it will be something totally unrelated, like a personal experience from childhood or something along those lines. Whatever the subject of the essay, you need to do your best in writing it and try to communicate your true feelings, because if you are unable to convince the scholarship committee, they certainly will have no problem in turning you down for your request.

Since 2008, when President Obama took office, he has made many changes to a multitude of Federal programs, including education. There are active new programs that grant money to many groups of people, especially single mothers and stay-at-home mothers, to allow them to continue their education without worrying about the cost involved. Also, in these times of economic distress, a higher degree will only help you in the job market.

There are scholarships for redheads, for people of any and every national descent you've heard of (and some you haven't), for left-handed people, for people whose grandmothers emigrated from different European countries, for people who want to study in various fields (computers, ceramics, food technology, basket weaving ), and many more -- too many to list in this short article. The important thing is to know that these programs exist and know where to find them.

Don't worry that you may not be the best writer in the world when you apply for a scholarship; even the best writers get stuck sometimes and have to let a piece sit and think on it for a day or so. If you get stuck, just come back to your essay another day. Also, don't fall into the trap of using "I" or "me" too much. The essay readers will understand that the essay is mainly about you, but constantly reminding them by using personal pronouns can be self-defeating.

If you have searched for a particular scholarship that you would like to apply for but are unable to find it, try another search with different keywords if you aren't happy with the results of your first search. With a bit of persistence, and a little creativity in your searching, there's no doubt you'll find what you're looking for. You might be surprised what you find.
